Cedar Island National Wildlife Refuge

Cedar Island National Wildlife Refuge is a 14,494-acre Wildlife Refuge in eastern Carteret County, North Carolina.  The refuge lies along a peninsula marking the southern end of Pamlico Sound and the road to the Ocracoke Island Ferry passes through.  The refuge was established in 1964 to conserve habitat for endangered species and migratory birds, including a large concentration of diving ducks.  Most of the refuge is made up of brackish marshes with about 3500 acres of pocosin and woodlands.  It is managed as a satellite of Mattamuskeet National Wildlife Refuge.
