Bonham State Park

Bonham State Park is a 261-acre Texas State Park in Fannin County northeast of Dallas.  The state acquired the land for the park from the City of Bonham in 1933 and facilities were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps over the next few years.  The park formally opened in 1936.  Today, the park features a 61-acre lake, over 7 miles of hiking trails, campgrounds and water activities on the lake.

Trails:


Armadillo Trail:


Armadillo Trail runs for about 1.5 miles along the southern end of the park through cedar forest where armadillos may be spotted.

Bois d'Arc Trail:


Bois d'Arc Trail is over 2 miles through rocky terrain, passing by old picnic areas and fireplaces constructed by the CCC.


Gnarly Root Trail:


Gnarly Root Trail runs through hardwood forest in the north part of the park.

Lake Loop Trail:


Lake Loop Trail follows the lake shore for just over a mile.

Western white honeysuckle (Lonicera albiflora)


Texas Indian paintbrush (Castilleja indivisa)

Smallflower milkvetch (Astragalus nuttallianus)


Bowl and doily spider (Frontinella pyramitela)


Eastern tiger swallowtail (Papilio glaucus)


Spicebush swallowtail (Papilio troilus)


Monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus)
